Regulatory Information

Freya Law Limited – Regulatory Status

Freya Law Limited (“Freya Law”) is not regulated or authorised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). This means that Freya Law, as a business entity, does not fall under the regulatory framework applied to traditional law firms. However, as the sole solicitor at Freya Law, I, Yunus Emre Akbaba, am personally regulated by the SRA in my individual capacity as a solicitor.

While I adhere to the SRA’s Code of Conduct and Principles in my personal capacity, there are important distinctions to be aware of when engaging with Freya Law:

No Access to the SRA Compensation Fund
As Freya Law is not regulated by the SRA, clients are not entitled to make a claim to the SRA Compensation Fund. The Compensation Fund is only available to clients of regulated firms to cover financial losses due to dishonesty or failure to account. Since Freya Law operates as an unregulated legal entity, this protection does not apply.

No Legal Ombudsman Jurisdiction for Freya Law
While clients can escalate complaints related to my conduct as a solicitor to the Legal Ombudsman, this applies solely to my personal capacity. The Legal Ombudsman does not have jurisdiction over Freya Law as a business entity. Clients should be aware that complaints about Freya Law itself cannot be taken to the Legal Ombudsman, only complaints about my work as an individual solicitor can be.

No Mandatory Minimum Insurance
As Freya Law is not regulated by the SRA, there is no mandatory requirement for the business to hold SRA-approved professional indemnity insurance. I do, however, maintain insurance at a level I believe is appropriate for the work I undertake, though clients should understand that this is not subject to SRA minimum standards. Clients should be aware of this difference compared to regulated firms.

Services Offered by Freya Law
Freya Law provides non-reserved legal services, which do not require the firm to be regulated. Reserved legal activities, such as representing clients in court or conducting conveyancing, can only be carried out by regulated law firms. As a sole solicitor, I provide general corporate, transactional, and intellectual property legal services that fall within the category of non-reserved work.

Client Money
Freya Law does not operate a client account, and I do not hold client money in my own name. Clients should be aware of this distinction as it may differ from regulated law firms.

Your Rights as a Client
As a client of Freya Law, it is important that you understand the regulatory status of the business and how this may affect the protections available to you. I am personally committed to delivering high-quality legal services, adhering to the SRA’s principles in my personal capacity, and maintaining transparency in all matters.
